Freakin Freegans

There was an article in the New York Times about Freegans. Their beliefs are based on limited consumerism and minimal consumption. Dumpster diving for unused stuff is part of the strategy. If you need free stuff, come to my house and I'll let you shop in my pantry, closet and discard pile. People were featured on Oprah showing stuff they had scored. Flowers, furniture, food. "The meal-had been totally made from refuse"...All I have to say is ...what the freak?! If you want trash join me watching The Trashelor tonight.
On a note of consumerism...http://suneday.blogspot.com is just for fun!http://citified.blogspot.com and this is glamorous!

Race Day

Last night was carbo-load~

Some people carbo-load in preparation for the race...some people think it's just another meal.

Some people go to the race to cheer on their athlete...some people stay home and track their athlete online and take a nap.

Some people make signs for the finish line...some people steal signs. Recycling, right.

Some people qualify for the Ironman in Kona...some people hope to get a vacation to Kona in October.

Tom and his crew did great! He improved his time by 28 minutes. He's once again a half ironman...some people wonder which half!

Ya Ya

Picture of a picture.

Today I had lunch with the Ya-yas. It was Sue's birthday. We have been friends for 15+ years. We are all over 40, okay well over 40. They make me feel young cause I'm the baby of the bunch. We have been through the good, the bad, and the really ugly together! Births, deaths, cancer, chronic illness, city council races...we've raised 15 children, all of our babies are in high school, 6 missionaries, 2 are married and no grandkids yet. These women know everything about me and love me anyway! They are wise, political, and spiritual...all things I aspire to be. I'm the shallow, fashionista but, someone needs to keep this group current. We are completely different...Merrilee is famous (she's a mormon celebrity), Sue is artistic, she's a rock and she needs a movie about her life, and Libby is calm and patient. She loves her kids more than we do so she's never been on vacay with us. I love my ya-yas!! I have young ya-yas too. They are called the Hot Moms...but that's another post for another day.

The Other Woman

My husband has a girlfriend . He's in love. She's thin, French and her name is Cervelo. They spend a lot of time together. They are going away this weekend. She likes to race too. I don't mind, she sleeps in the garage!

Let them eat cake!

After one sitting.

My family loves this pan. It means one thing, Sunshine's cake. This stuff is so rich and fabulous. The ingredients are surprising and it tastes exactly like a chocolate eclair! We like to eat it 3 times a day. Tom was worried when she posted the recipe on Sunshine and Scott that she wouldn't make it for us anymore. Not to worry, I loaned her a few things for a recent trip. It pays to be a Fairy Godmother!!

Good Friday Fashion

sneek peek boho chic
this one might hurt your eyes...one must suffer for fashion

not an Easter choice but, so cute...you've gotta love pink pom-poms and sequins!!

We've been having Easter dress drama at our house. I thought I had taken care of this when I was in Scottsdale and bought the cutest dress for Brynn. It was from out of state, no one else would have it, I couldn't even find it on the internet. She tried it on for me and it is too short...this girl is all legs. She had the day off school so we went on a quest. Now there are many cute dresses with sleeves this season, but most of them are short. Alas, we found some good stuff today so now she has options! That was a close one! How can you have Easter without a new dress?! We would have had to cancel, I know, pathetic, but we're shallow like that! I'll post pics later.

Gadget

I'm not a gadget girl and you've probably seen this, but it's new to me. I found this at the fabric store, I know-what was I doing there!?! Mostly just walking around looking at anything but fabric! Fabric and craft stores bewilder me. I always wonder what do people do with all this stuff. It's the equivalent of the hardware store, seriously! Anyway while I was walking around I saw this candle melting thingy. My sister and sil Angie have them and I wish I would've had one when my pyro boys lived at home. I love candles but, the flame triggers my asthma and since the fires I'm kind of freaked out by open flames! My daughter likes to use it as a paraffin wax dip for her nails, which I don't recommend. Did I mention that it was only $5! I thought it would be $30. I probably shouldn't share the price in case I get you one as a gift...oh well, maybe I'll get you a candle too! I'll give them to all the non-bloggers.

Elder Jordy

He has a tree growing out of his head.

San Diego boy, born and bred. Is there a mission that lets you dress like this!?!

Jordan finished filling out his paperwork for his mission while he was home. I took pictures of him to send in with his papers. He will be the cutest missionary!

He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother

The Osmond's make me cry! Not because they are so talented. Not because I was going to marry Jay, my sister was going to marry Donny and my youngest sister was going to marry Jimmy...in my dreams. Because they sing He Ain't Heavy He's my brother. I saw them on Oprah again the other day and I saw their anniversary show on PBS, and every time they make me cry! Since the unexpected death of my older brother Scott in December, lots of things make me cry. It hits me when I least expect it. My heart aches and I can't believe he's really gone. I have a soap opera mentality about the whole thing, like maybe it's not true and he'll just show up or call one of these days. It always happens on All My Children and General Hospital. I miss him terribly. He was there my whole life and taught me all kinds of stuff...good, bad, and ugly! He is still teaching me stuff. I've learned to have less fear and take more chances. I've learned more about the plan of salvation and the resurrection. I now know deep in my heart that they are true. My last email to Scott was titled He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother. I love you Scott!

Au Revoir

I call these boys Mcmuffin and Mcnugget. They are the aids in the gym at PT. They are quite amusing and kept me laughing during the torturous PT exercises. I think Mcmuffin has more shoes than me! I may have to feature him on Shoesday. I will miss all their silly antics, but not that darn gym!!

Kiss My Grass

I hate, hate Easter grass! That stuff is endlessly annoying!! It does'nt matter if it's paper, plastic, or edible...I swear I saw some at Target. You find that stuff around your house til the next Easter. So, one year I actually followed one of Martha's "good things." Usually Martha just puts me to sleep. Esspecially before she went to jail. She has that monotone, Mr. Roger's voice that lulls me into a coma. Martha suggested using a yard of tulle in place of that pesky grass. It changed my life, well not really, but it did make me much happier than having to vaccum or sweep up the d@#* grass. I don't even do the cleaning up but at least Tom and the housekeepers don't have to be bothered with that mess! Just go to the fabric store and buy a yard or a roll of tulle. It comes in many colors. You too will have a Happy Easter!!

Fashion Friday

Love this face!

Couldn't resist these!

Pink polka-dots!

Fashion Lizzie style! I love spoiling my little niece. When Brynn was little, my Sis kept her looking good. Sis was young, single and worked at Nordstrom and Cotton Kids. She always got Brynnie the cutest, hip fashions. Sis also helped me when I was looking "Mommish" not to be mistaken by amish. However, in the late 80's and early 90's I did look amish, but that's another story for another day! Now it's my turn to give back. These are for the summer collection. It's the best buying clothes for a little girl!! These cute dresses will look even better on little Lizzie!

Graduation

At home exercises. My favorite is the" clams."

Do you think I have to be shirtless and wear short shorts? Cause that would be terrifying!!

Cue the Pomp and Circumstance...that's right, today I graduated from PT! Woo-hoo!! Now I have to think of something to do with all my free-time. I need a new hobby. My PT said "Remember you had a really bad injury and you have enough hardware to put up a skyscraper! " I can't decide if I should build the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty...that will be my new hobby!!! Now I just continue to torture myself at home. I'm much easier on myself than they are.

Tag Your It

10 years ago I was: Living in my old house, my kids were 11, 8, and 5. Life was good. Brynn started school and I cried, tears of joy! I was cutting hair 3 days a week and most importantly, I was well!

Things on my to-do list today: To-do list, what's that? Orthodontist, Brynn got her retainer, Sprint store, got the info from my old, crap phone into my cool, new, pink phone, cut Jordy's hippie hair, watch American Idol! Dry cleaners and stock up on more gummy bunnies will have to wait til tomorrow.

4 things I would do if I became a billionaire: Pay off my nephew Zach's medical bills, donate to the Perpetual Education fund and Mother's Without Borders, Invest ( Tom's reading this), buy Louboutin's!!

3 bad habits: Watching too much TV, eating too much sugar, swearing...I have a potty mouth.

5 jobs I have had: Summer Girl (Minnesota name for nannie), cleaning girl, Gopher at a bank, hair stylist, Mom-the hardest job of all!

6 things people don't know about me:1. I'm a BYU drop-out but not a Beauty School Drop-out

2. I wanted to be one of The Tom Hanson Dancers when I grew up. For those of you too young to know, they were the dancers on The Carol Burnett Show

3. I've fallen down stairs and broken my leg, twice! I know I'm brilliant...and I was a dancer!!

4. I once had a People Magazine Club instead of a Book Club. We called it a Biography Club to make it sound highbrow.

5. I speak French...well, pre-school French. I spoke fluently when I was on my mission in Quebec. I like to read French blogs.

6. I couldn't e-mail 6 months ago. Look at me now!!

I tag Tawnya, Melissa A, and Angie if you want to play, no pressure.

Shoesday

Since my jeans cover the sheepskin, I've been seen wearing them in public!
I'm digging these!

Nice cankles!
These are so cool they're hot!!

Matinee

There is something so decadent about a matinee. I love going to the movies in the middle of the day. It feels like I'm doing something wrong. Brunch and a movie, can you call popcorn brunch?! The Other Boleyn Girl is a great chick flick. Of course the book is much better, they always are. Tawnya called it when she said it is "medieval por-."The best part of the movie was that we saw a closed-caption version and at the end it would say on the screen "head thuds." Ooooh! So lets hear it for sisters...sorry Brynn. You get to pick your own and that's good too! I will miss Tawnya when she moves. It's hard to find "matinee people" any one interested?! Plus she has really cute shoes!!
