Holly Jolly Melancholy

This box represents 22 Christmases spent with our oldest baby boy Evan. This will be the last year he puts them on our tree. Next year they will deck their own halls. Jordy's ornaments are on display and we long for Christmas Day to talk to him. That's all I want for Christmas is to hear his voice.
The wedding is a nice distraction from other things...
Tomorrow my breast friend Merrilee starts chemo for breast cancer.
Her new favorite Carol is...
I'll be bald for Christmas.
You can count on me
Please send wigs and do a jig
and presents under the tree
Christmas Eve will find me where the love light gleams
I'll be bald for Christmas, If only it were a dream.
We like dark humor.
My favorite Carol I wrote last year...
Oh Holy Crap the sky is brightly shining it is the night of our dear brother's death
Long lay the world in sin and error pining til he appeared and the crowd heard him laugh
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder comes a young and spunky guy.
Fall on your knees oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine, oh crap when Scotty died, oh night divine, oh crap, oh night divine.
Maybe irreverant but this is how I cope. On Dec 23rd I will be singing this and eating his favorite treat. Nut Goodies I ordered them from Minnesota.
I haven't slept in two nights. With sleep aids. Just a couple of naps. I guess I'll go with the Scarlet philosophy . (Say it with a southern accent) "I'll go home and I'll think of somehow to get to sleep
Afterall, tomorrow is another day."
I need a therapist, my head just might explode.
I really need to sleep in heavenly peace...keep your fingers crossed.

So, so intense Diane. I love dark humor, too. I am really sorry that you lost your brother Scott. I betcha Scott loves his song and so does Merrilee. You are amazing, do you know that?

Aww...the ornaments will go to their new home next year. That would make me teary.

Oh Diane. I love that you can see the humor in everything. Holidays are always bittersweet, thinking about loved ones lost and moving on and absent friends. Merry Christmas...anyway.

I like your posts when you haven't slept for 48 hours. I didn't know Scott, but I bet he really likes your Carol about him.

I have to say I hadn't heard your "Scott Carol" before...he would LOVE it!! We've placed our Nut Goodie order, as well.
Take it easy & hopefully you'll sleep...until the phone rings this afternoon & it's me, waking you up...

Isn't that the truth about the bitter sweet holiday season. If you can't see the humor in the dark part of life, you'd be crying all the time. I'm with ya sista! Sleep well and know you're loved!

not sleeping is the worst! I guess your carols aren't exactly lulling you into a secure sense of peaceful sleep :) Robie's ornaments that his mom collected for him every year are some of the favorites on our tree!

Byron's chemo has been pushed to the 12th. My best friend Vicki has survived two battles with breast cancer and is healthy! Please give Merrilee a hug and our love and support. You know how much she will rely on you for the next several months. A sense of humor is truly the best medicine!!

NOT sleeping makes everything off kilter. I REALLY hope you get some zzzzz's soon!

I like your silghtly irreverent songs. I think your loved ones will too. They're just "you."

We have the same ornament tradition, and I'm not looking forward to the year I don't get to see the kids' special ornaments on my tree. But it IS fun to look at them each year and remember.

I like dark humor, too. If we can't make fun of ourselves, what's the poitn?

Dark humor is the only way to get through sometimes. I still remember how much we laughed at our own dark humor right after my grandma died (a month after my grandpa). It still makes me giggle.

I love your tradition to buy an ornament for each year with your kids. I'm starting that next year. :)

Good luck with getting some sleep.

I love those CHristmas carols! That totally sounds like something I'd do. Humor is required at times like that.

I love it Diane. You have to have a sense of humor when bad things happen. I can't believe the wedding is almost here-so exciting!

Sometimes all we can do is laugh. Great carols. Maybe you should take them around your neighborhood. This reminds me of a song I made up about my dad and will blog it when I get a pic of him.

Good luck with all the wedding stuff.

I love Ambien!

I love your humor! Our family has a similar streak. I hope you can get some sleep tonight...I'll be thinking of you when I am up at 1 and 4 am...and whenever my little man gets up.

I really hate it when you make me laugh and cry in the same post!! I miss Scott, too, but I miss the 16-17 year old version. We had a lot of good times back in the day!

There are two things I like dark-my humor and my chocolate.

I love your spunkiness. I take my humor dark, too.

p.s. love the Donny Osmond story you left in my comments. Proving the spunkiness yet again.
