Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Brynn is in the land of 10,000 lakes and 100,000 mosquitos. She is attending EFY with her cousin Hanna. As she was packing, I couldn't help thinking that next year she will be packing to go away to college. My nest will be empty. I'm freaking out.
I'm gonna be a hot mess. I really need to get a life and quick. I will take any suggestions. I am limited as to what I can do. It must be something I can do at home while seated. Here is where the problem lies. I am craft impaired and I pretty much hate all crafts. I have no desire to take an on-line class because you have to take tests and write papers and yeah, that may be why I quit college. I guess I'll just keep playing on face in hole.com and other such junk. I can't even read on dizzy days. So give me all your ideas.
These girls are like sisters and today they had to say good bye. The middle one is on her way to college before Brynn gets back. They have been BFFs for 10 years or so. Luckily, the little sis will still be here and I think Brynn may move into their house permanently. She already lives there half the time now.

I've been crying on and off all day. Even though we will see the BFF in July and again in August. It is the end of an era and I'm not ready.

I could sent you a couple of my kids if you want. They are fairly low maintenance and pretty good company.

You better come up with something fabulous to do when she's gone. I've been learning from your example for years now. I worry about that empty nest thing and my youngest is only 7.

I'll be there to virtually hold your hand and supply you an endless line of magazines and books. Just promise you'll talk me down when it's my turn in 15 years (ACK!)!

Ahhhh, are you dying? I can't imagine what life will be like when by baby birds have flown the nest.

Maybe you could take up online gambling? :-)

Brynn is such a cutie and EFY will be the best! I loved going there - she will find many a cute boy to hang out with, I am sure!
As for empty nest happening - my children love visiting other homes and I have no problems leaving them for extended periods of time! :)
Just sayin!

Okay. So you've had no real suggestions on what you could "take up" to add spice back into your life after the kids are all gone.

I have an ankle that's bad. The bone isn't doing well (in the heal) and so it limits so much of what I can do too, so I completely understand your problem. :)

About five years ago someone told me about making glass beads. I am not "crafty crafty" but enjoy painting my bathroom or making a bathroom curtain. Other than that? Not much. Also, I can't take up exercising too much because the bone can't handle that stress, but I needed to do SOMETHING.

For about 1,500 or so, I got completely set up to make beads. It takes NO SKILL. I PROMISE. My husband can even do it and he has gorilla hands and fingers. lol You could do this. It's so relaxing yet you find your heart racing after you make something that turns out better than you expected. The possibilities are endless.

The best part? Seeing your friends faces when you give them a strand of beads, making a lovely necklace, all from something you made. :)

I do it as a full-time business, but many, many of my friends do it as a hobby and make all their Christmas gifts. After a while, they'll come to expect your beauties for EVERY holiday. :)

If you ever want info, just drop me a line. I'll fill you in. In the meantime, this is my studio...

Good luck (with whatever you decide to do)!

ps: I should have said that it takes ONLY PRACTICE. lol You do need skill, lol, but you don't have to worry about not being able to do it. Anyone can do it! :) (even my children have been able to make bead)

:)

knitting? I got nothing for you sorry. It must be a bitter sweet, sad to see them leave the nest, but so happy to see the kind of people they turn into and watch there next stage of life. Maybe you should orchestra a plan to flunk her and hold her back and then she can't graduate....

p.s. Bermuda was so absolutely wonderful and beautiful and just perfect. We actually stayed at the fairmont in Southhampton (same place you were at) Loved all the beaches.

We'll make a special trip to Michaels craft store while I'm in town. You know you want to. We'll make a crafter out of you yet.

Not.

seriously, that's brutal - the only bright sides I can think of are that you can eat as much chocolate as you want (you're trying to beef up the booty, right?) and you've still got a year to come up with a fabulous way to fill the void - I"m liking the "writing a book" pathway - maybe like a bunch of short novelettes based on your life with kind of like Encyclopedia Brown endings, like, "If you think I fell down the stairs and broke something, turn to page 145" or "If you think I made it down the stairs and was able to fly home, turn to page 37". Just consider it.

I am not sure where my comment went...I must have deleted it...

Anyway...I just wanted to say that I know I will cry when my kids leave the nest. Some days I want to lock them out...but I know I will truly miss them one day.

The suggestion I wrote before (maybe I commented on a different post and not this one by accident)was to record your voice reading books on tape for college students with learning disabilities. I have friend that reads college textbooks for students with dyslexia.

Aaawww! Hang in there! You can take any of my kids any day you want ;) Oh wait, some one else already offered their kids to you.

That is so sad! I would hate for Brynn to leave also. We will just have to come visit and fill your house with little ones again!
