Experiment in Hair

I've been thinking about it since February when I met a stunning woman about my age who did it...and I have finally made a decision to go gray. That's right, starting today I'm going to go for it. I had my hair cut and weaved without touching up all my regrowth because let's face it I will do this gracefully without the big fat line. Can you see my grey roots? I can. We will see how long I can stand the transition period which will be long and painful I'm afraid. I've been bored with my hair and after seeing three chic women around my age go for it, I am inspired. My inner cha-cha hair stylist is screaming at me saying, "what are you thinking crazy lady!" My inner feminist has thought about this possibility for years. She says, "why do you allow society to dictate what a 47 year old should look like." I am woman hear me roar. I read a journal of a woman who did this at my age in More magazine a few years ago and thought it was brave and cool. I may lose my courage but I'm going for it.

I will document my experience here. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Like when I start to look like a mouse. I honestly don't know what color my hair is. But I'm fairly certain it is a shade of grey. I've been highlighting and coloring since I was 14. I have some friends and a sister who will tell me when to throw in the towel if need be. I figure if I have the right wardrobe and haircut I can pull it off.

I have visions of looking cool like Jaime Lee Curtis.

I fear I may look like Susan Boyle. Join me in the journey.

I wish there was a way to try it quickly and pain free.
I love this post by the original Platinum Princess.

Fashion Friday/Hair Edition

As Brynn's Birthday month comes to an end we celebrated with a few friends. Pre-prom hair and make-up preview.

They spent the day together making final plans for prom.

Practicing hair styles and makeup techniques.

Loose low chignon.

Fishtail side ponytail.

Spiral curls.
The chick on the left is way too old for prom.

Simply lovely...the girls not the old broad.

I've been doing my part as fashion stylist assisting with jewelry and purse selection and coordination. It's my calling really.

Hot Wheels

Fun with the handicapped. These girls are having wheel chair races. I got a new set of wheels. This chair weighs only 14 lbs.
The vintage chair weighs about 114lbs.
Anyone want to help me pimp my ride?

Beauty Product Review

John Frieda makes my favorite products that I can pick up at Target. I've been using the shampoo and conditioner for blonde hair for years. I also love the Frizz-Ease products. The straightening serum and spray are fabulous. These new products are no exception. I use the smoothing creme on wet hair before I blow dry and then I spray the protective styling spray on dry hair before I flat iron. My hair hasn't been this smooth and straight in 10 years. Menopause and gray hair have changed the texture of my hair from stick straight to wavy and I can't handle it. Until now.
Maybelline moisture extreme lip liner in toast is exactly the color of my lips and glides right on. When used to fill in lips it stays moist and looks great topped with gloss. Revlon Color Stay Ultimate lip gloss was a giant waste. I was hoping since it is a gloss it would not dry my lips because it is a long wearing product. Unfortunately, I had chapped lips after one application. Skip this one.

The Revlon Creme Gloss is brilliant. The colors are vibrant like a lipstick but glossy like, well gloss. I love this stuff. It has a brush applicator and comes in a great selection of colors. A bit sticky but I am still a fan.

I keep my Cover Girl Wet slicks Amazemint gloss with me at all times. I have one in my purse and one in my make-up bag. I love how it feels, smells and it testes good. Pink Positive is my favorite color.

The L'Oreal Hip line has some great products. This new kohl eyeliner in brown has a little shimmer. I love the applicator and the color. It goes on like a dream and is easy to get a thin or fat line. It smudges easily for the perfect smokey eye. My only issue with this product is that since it is a powder it falls under my eye and makes a mess which I then have to fix. I do enjoy the fact that this eyeliner can double as shadow. Plus it stay on.

Afte watching America's Next Top Model I was anxious to try the Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain. It looks like a marker. As long as you use plenty of lipgloss on top you might like this. It tastes a little weird but it does last a long time.

These Colgate Wisp toothbrushes are a brilliant invention. No water required and there is a built in, dissolving bead that acts as toothpaste and breath mint. Since I have Invisalign braces I am constantly brushing my teeth. These are great to throw in your bag when you are on the go.

I really should get paid for this.I'm good at product review.
Next time you are at Target try something new. I dare you.

Shoesday

I love the embellishment on these sandals. They are totally comfortable as well.

This is not a sunburn...

I guess I sat a little too close to the fire ring last night. Anyone have some aloe?

Missionary Monday

Chicken toss anyone? "We had zone conference yesterday and it was really good. The theme is miracle may. We're supposed to ask our families to pray for miracles in our mission during may. So hopefully we'll see a lot of miracles. Oh and we got to watch a part of Hoosiers at zone conference. Our mission President loves basketball. We made Hoosiers into a modern day parable so that was pretty cool. Most of the missionaries hadn't even seen it before."
I hope they get their miracles because Elder Jordy needs some quality people to teach. I'm shocked that there are people out there who have never seen Hoosiers. It's a classic in our family, but then my kids have seen every sport themed movie.

Fashion Friday

Feel the Wal-Mart love. Last week Jennifer took me on a field trip to Wally world. I have professed my love for Wal-Mart before but I hadn't been there in ages. If you are having a bad day, a trip to Wal-Mart will cheer you right up. Where else can you go and be the most fashionable, fabulous girl in the building?

Here is a break down of the good the bad and the ugly fashion at the big W.

The good-What a nice surprise to see that Norma Kamali has designed a great collection for Wal-Mart. This T-shirt was on sale for 5$. No kidding. The quality is exactly what you would expect from this high end designer. With great attention to detail from the shell buttons to the bell sleeve Norma got my attention. This black jacket is no exception. It has covered buttons, swing cut and little straps on the 3/4 length sleeves. It was on sale for 15$.

Thank you Norma for creating style for the masses at amazing prices.

I think I'm in...

I let Jennifer have a ride on the scooter.
The Bad-Okay these shoes that were on clearance are way bad. Hideous really. I don't care if they are giving them away. Avoid them like the swine flu.

The Ugly-or what not to wear at Wal-Mart or anywhere for that matter.

Jennifer couldn't resist looking over her shoulder at this woman.

Good times I'm telling you. Maybe I'll see you there next time...but then I might not be the most stylish.
